NBA 2K has 2K MT evolved from simply another product that is hyped in the gaming world. It's now a cultural moment with its integration of pop culture, music as well as fashion, sneakers and, of course, basketball has taken the franchise to heights is unmatched by any other sport. With the latest edition, NBA 2K23, the game made history after announcing J. Cole as the first rapper to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K with the Dreamer Edition. Although it's definitely a surprise that 2K had a cover of this especially so late in the rollout, the trend of the game's own design may have implied that this might happen some day. Even with that being said it was not even the idea of 2K, it was J. Cole's.

Cole said 'Ronnie I'd love being in MyCareer and help you think of the ideation around that,'" Ronnie 2K tells Complex. "I worked with our team to bring this idea to the forefront, and it was appropriate to work alongside him. The moment we released that tease, everybody believed that it was going to turn out to be another basketball player...it allows us live in culture, fashion and music and culture, which is why 2K has a seat at the table now."
